Bolt is a challenger in the European energy market with a clear mission: fight greenwashing through radical transparency. Every energy producer on the Bolt platform has a face, a story and verifiable data behind their production. To deliver this level of insight at scale – from onboarding consumers to detailed consumption analytics – Bolt needed a robust digital platform and a modern data foundation.

Together with Bolt’s internal team, we act as long-term technology partner, co-developing their customer-facing energy platform, customer portal and data platform.

Problem Statement

Bolt wanted to give consumers unprecedented control and clarity over their energy choices. That ambition came with several challenges:

  • Complex user journey: From first online simulation to onboarding and ongoing insights into consumption, the process needed to be seamless, intuitive and fully transparent.
  • High data complexity: Information from multiple sources had to be combined.
  • Operational efficiency: Customer service, sales and internal teams needed better tools to manage simulations, respond to customer needs and process feedback without increasing manual workload.
  • Data infrastructure limitations: Existing systems were not designed to consolidate and transform large volumes of heterogeneous data into reliable, real-time reporting and insights.

Bolt was looking for a scalable, future-proof digital and data architecture that could support rapid product evolution while staying true to its promise of transparency.

Our Solution

We worked closely with Bolt’s product and engineering teams to design and build a set of integrated solutions across the platform, operations and data layers.

  1. Customer-facing energy platform & portal
  2. Operational tooling for Customer Service & Sales
  3. A Design System that serves as a practical guide for designers and developers, centralizing colors, typography, components, blocks and more. This system not only brings visual consistency, it also allows developers to expand and adjust Bolt’s front-end platforms faster, more consistently and with less friction. The design system is built with technologies such as React, Vite, GitHub, NPM and Storybook
  4. A Headless CMS based on Strapi. This enables the marketing team to manage and update content independently, without relying on development resources.
  5. Introduced DevSecOps, supported by cloud services hosted on Amazon Web Services, ensuring that security, reliability and scalability are embedded into the development lifecycle from the start. These initiatives are powered by tools and frameworks such as AWS Lambda, Terraform and the Serverless Framework.
  6. End-to-end data platform: To support Bolt’s growing data needs, we designed and implemented a modern data infrastructure within the AWS ecosystem:
    • Data pipeline & consolidation
    • AWS-based data infrastructure
    • Data reporting enablement

Results & Impact

Consumers can now choose their energy producer based on clear, verifiable information and continuously follow their own consumption and pricing over time.

Internally, customer care responds faster and more accurately to support requests, and the sales team can adjust and improve the simulation flow without depending on long development cycles.

With the AWS-based data pipeline and infrastructure, Bolt now has a single, trusted source of truth across all data sources and can rely on robust reporting for product, pricing and operational decisions.

The combination of a modular platform, a mature design system, a headless CMS and cloud-native DevSecOps practices gives Bolt a scalable foundation to add new features, integrate additional data sources and grow into new markets, while remaining fully aligned with its core promise of transparent, honest green energy.
